Dr. Albert T. W. Simeons, often called Dr. A. T. W. Simeons is the pioneering founder of the world renowned 'hCG diet'. This diet is often used to treat obesity.

He was born in England, and he spends his childhood in London. After that he studied Medicine in the University of Heidelberg. Soon after that, Dr. Simeons moved to Germany and then in Switzerland. While he was there, he worked many different areas of Medicine, when he decided to specialise in Tropical medicine. His decision leads him to Hamburg where he started visiting the School of Tropical Medicine.

Dr. Simeon researched and studied ways to cure malaria, and investigated methods of staining malaria parasites, during his stay at Hamburg, for which work he was awarded the Red Cross Order of Merit in 1931 by the Queen of England.

That same year he moved to India, where he stayed for 18 years and continued practicing Medicine, when he found something remarkable. He discovered undernourished women who were almost starving were still able to give birth to healthy babies. Soon after that, he discovered that their bodies were producing large amounts of hCG. That hCG was breaking down the fat reserves of the body of the mother and was supplying it to the baby she carries. And then they give birth to a healthy and strong baby. So he studied this specific aspect of weight management in detail. After he finished his work in India, he moved to Italy.

Dr. Simeons published 'Pounds and Inches: A New Approach to Obesity' in 1954, subsequent to a period of research, with the hypothesis that the breakdown of fats happen during periods of starvation, but after a space of 90 days, fats around the joints and thighs are broken down to provide nutrients. He reasoned that because in health people these fats are not utilized, it leads to weight gain.

Continuing on with his research, in his report he published, Dr. Simeons was surprised to notice that when subjects were given a low calorie diet combined with hCG, it resulted in a more holistic weight loss that in essence 'reshaped' the body. This was also noticed in subjects who did not exercise. Even more interestingly, patients did not experience any untoward symptoms such as headaches, weakness, and irritability or hunger pangs. He ultimately concluded from his research that it was the secondary fat reserves that were broken down that helped the subjects slim down dramatically.

Putting together his findings in his manuscript, Dr. Simeons created one of the most talked about weight loss programs on the market today. Thousands of people still use his program with excellent results. There is no doubt that what appeared to be just an observation has led to one of the major discoveries in weight loss and weight maintenance in the modern era.
