Facts On Health Supplements

By Andy G Smith

Many years ago I believed that all supplements were manufactured to the same standards, but I have since learned that this isn't the case. From my personal research, I have found that there're many factors, that affect the quality and therefore, the effectiveness of nutritional supplements. I'll outline some of these now and will explain the relevance of each of the factors discussed.

antioxidants and Minerals - The role of vitamins in the body is to support healthy immune functions and to neutralise harmful free radicals. Free radicals are created as a waste product from chemical processes within the body (particularly respiration and digestion) and are highly volatile particles, which attack human cells. Over extended periods of time, constant attacking of our cells by free radicals can initiate the development of degenerative diseases and conditions. Therefore, an advanced consumption of antioxidants and minerals can help to minimise free radical damage and assist in the fight against degenerative conditions.

Minerals also have many inportant roles in our bodies, acting on cells, tissues and organs. Most of our bodily processes rely on on minerals to initiate the enzymes, which perform those bodily functions.

This will probably have an impact on the bioavailability of the nutrients in that product. Another major issue with food grade products is that there's an increased risk of product contamination.

As a former fitness professional I have the opinion that it is more logical to provide our bodies with a surplus, providing the quantities that we intake are not in toxic dosages. By providing our bodies with excess, it can use as much as it needs and reject what is left over. Micro-nutrients that are not required will be excreted and so will not adversely affect our health. Some nutritional supplements suppliers produce nutritionals to pharmaceutical manufacturing standards, so they have better control of the consistency of each tablet. This also significants decreases the likelihood of contamination with dangerous, or prohibited substances. With this in mind, I also recommend consuming supplements that are of a pharmaceutical standard.

If you have weight management goals or concerns about diabetes, then low glycemic, nutritionally balanced meal replacements and healthy snacks can offer you a solution.
